How Estimates Work
The calculator applies a simplified version of each state's commonly cited spousal support framework. You enter incomes, marriage length, children, and optional adjustments; the tool returns a monthly and annual planning range plus likely duration bands. Results are starting points for research — courts may consider many additional factors.
For formula details, caps, duration logic, and limitations, see our methodology page.
Educational Use Only
SettleCompass is not a law firm and does not provide legal, tax, or financial advice. Calculator results are estimates based on simplified formulas and general guidelines. Actual court awards depend on state law, judge discretion, and case-specific evidence. Always consult a licensed family law attorney for advice about your situation.
Who We Serve
Our resources are built for anyone researching spousal support during separation or divorce — including spouses estimating payments, preparing for mediation, comparing state rules, or organizing finances before meeting with a professional.
